Egyptian consumers are showing growing interest in smart and energy-efficient home appliances, according to Egypt-focused findings from the latest Smart Living Index released by international home appliance manufacturer Beko.
The Smart Living Index is a global study that tracks shifts in consumer attitudes toward sustainability, energy consumption, and connected home technologies. The research was conducted independently by J.L. Partners and surveyed thousands of participants across 12 markets, including Egypt, using demographically representative sampling.
Strong Consumer Trust in AI-Powered Appliances
The findings reveal that more than half of surveyed consumers in Egypt reported complete trust in AI-enabled home appliances, placing the country among markets with the highest confidence levels in smart technology adoption.
The report also highlighted that 66% of dishwasher users in Egypt consider smart living features important — a figure exceeding comparable data recorded in several European countries. Meanwhile, 83% of respondents indicated awareness of the operating costs associated with tumble dryers, reflecting a relatively high level of cost sensitivity among Egyptian households.
Researchers noted that markets where consumers actively track energy usage typically show stronger adoption of smart appliance technologies. In Egypt, smart features are increasingly viewed as practical solutions for managing household expenses and improving daily efficiency.
Executives Highlight Shift Toward Value-Driven Purchasing
Commenting on the findings, Hakan Bulgurlu, Chief Executive Officer of Beko, said the results signal a broader shift toward value-focused purchasing behavior as consumers respond to rising living costs. He added that buyers are placing greater emphasis on transparency, product durability, and measurable efficiency.
Umit Gunel, General Manager of Beko Egypt and Regional Director for North Africa, said Egyptian consumers are increasingly making informed decisions about home appliances, with sustainability now closely linked to household financial planning. He added that the company continues to prioritise locally produced, energy-efficient appliances aligned with international quality standards.
The Smart Living Index findings also reflect Egypt’s broader shift toward sustainability and digital transformation. The study suggests that as more households adopt connected technologies, smart appliances could play a key role in improving resource efficiency and enabling data-driven energy management at the domestic level.
Overall, the report highlights how economic pressures, sustainability priorities, and rapid technological adoption are collectively reshaping consumer behaviour in Egypt and other surveyed markets.
